Project Prom

Project Prom is an event held each year at our store the Second Hand Rose. In the spring we receive recommendations from local school officials of young women who would like to participate in the program. Our goal is to recognize their hard work and determination of staying in school when personal and financial circumstances may be difficult. Through our generous volunteers, donors and community we provide free dresses, accessories and salon services. For one night Second Hand Rose is transformed into a special shopping experience for these women. During the event volunteers provide personal attention to each of the participants. Our hope is that each young lady walks away feeling confident and prepared for her special prom.
I love this Program. I know I say this about all of the programs that our league does, but this one really stands out to me and I get goose bumps when I talk about to others. The young ladies walk in and browse through dresses, shoes, and accessories. It is so fun watching them try on dress after dress, well some find the perfect one right away. After their wardrobe is all assembled they can pick and choose what hair and make up they want and then at the very end we surprise them with a Salon gift certificate for a up do, and a restaurant gift card. We also have a lavish spread of food donated by Adele's in Salado. Yummy! The majority of the girls are blown away and can't keep saying thank you, thank you.

Each of the young ladies invited can bring along 2 guests. This year the story that touched me was between a Mother and Daughter, and when this daughter walked of her dressing room in her first formal dress ever this Mother was brought to tears at the sight of her daughter in her first formal dress, and she said over tears I had hoped for a day like this. It is moments like these when I am humbled to be a member of the Junior League of Bell County. We truly are finding ways to do the most good.
